Street Complete: How to pick the right size?

Street Complete: How to pick the right size?

There are a few things to consider when you decide to buy a street skateboard and picking the right size of deck is the first of many choices you'll make. The shape of your board is super important: the length, width, materials, and concave of your skateboard deck determine what you will be able to do on your skateboard.

The most important feature to choose for starting is the width, it will depend on your height and weight, your shoe size and what you want to ride. In general, the narrowest boards are made for small skaters and kids while the largest will offer more stability to taller skaters or with bigger feet. But it will also depend on what kind of skater you are. As an example, flip tricks are easier with narrow boards and large boards are better for ramps, bowls or just to cruise.

Up to 7.75’’

Narrow decks ideal for youth riders. Tricks are easier as they are narrow skates.
Recommended for a shoe size up to 37 (EU).

From 7.75” to 8.25”

Medium deck width for teen or adult riders skating street terrain or doing more technical tricks with easy taking in hand.
Recommended for a shoe size between 38 and 41 (EU).

From 8.25’’ to 8.5’’

Ideal for various street and transition terrain: parks, pools, rails, stairs. It is the most versatile option.
Recommended for a shoe size between 42 and 44 (EU).

Over 8.5’’

Wider decks great for transition skating, pools, ramps or just cruising. The larger width allows a better stability for riding or cruising.
Recommended for a shoe size above 44 (EU).

Of course, this information is only as a guide, choosing the right size of skateboard is a personal preference and you’ll discover it with time and experience.
